Let’s talk coupe utilities. What is a couple utility? Well, a “Ute” is a short name for one of the more unusual, but semi-popular concepts for a vehicle. Part car, part truck, couple utility vehicles have been around for a long time. Most utility vehicles we see today are more truck than car, but that wasn’t always the case. The first really well-known one in the US was the Ford Ranchero, which started production in 1957 and was quickly followed by Chevrolet’s offering, the El Camino, in 1959. Other versions have been made by other companies as well (Dodge Rampage, Shelby Rampage, Scamp GT, GMC Sprint or Caballero anyone?). Great examples of Utes today are the Ford Falcon Ute and the Holden (GM) VFII Ute, both sold in Australia. Heck, you can even get a 6.2L powerplant in the Holden!
