It was a ballsy move. George Poteet hates a big-inch wheel, he doesn’t think they look right on these older cars. We agree.
18” wheels are the norm on pro-touring cars, with some folks venturing larger but rarely doing the vehicle justice. The centers of these Forgeline wheels are about 16” in diameter, so to simulate a larger tire, we peened and satin powder coated the hoops. After adding the redlines to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (which were first available to the market on GM vehicles in 1967, making this 1967 look period-correct), we think we were able to nail the look just right. The texture and sheen of the hoop matched the tire perfectly.
Normally we’re not a fan of black wheels. But in this instance, maybe it hit close enough to the mark to say it looks “right”.
